Richard L. Gaskell elected to the Board

Richard L. Gaskell, CLU, FICF, Vice President, Agent Compliance & Special Advisor has been elected to the Board of the Fraternal Field Mangers Association (FFMA)

Rick Gaskell is the Vice President of Agent Compliance and acts as a Special Advisor to the Senior Vice President of Agency and Marketing at the Knights of Columbus. In previous roles with the Knights, as a national field director, Rick specialized in training general agents across the United States and Canada, helping them improve their recruiting, selection and training skills.  As Vice President of Training, Rick’s team conducted 14 Home Office training schools each year for field agents, general agents and field directors. His team developed and implemented training initiatives for the field force for both live engagements and virtual training. Beginning his life insurance career as a sales agent in 1982, Rick spent 20 years with several large commercial life companies, holding successively more responsible positions.  He joined the Knights of Columbus in 2002. Rick and his wife, Julie, have five children and seven grandchildren.  They currently reside in Clinton, Connecticut.

Carmen Englert elected to the Board

Englert, CarmenCarmen Englert is a Field Leadership Business Consultant with Thrivent Financial.  Carmen started her career with Thrivent Financial in 1993 and has held a variety of leadership roles supporting both home office and field functions.  She is passionate about developing others and for the past 15 years has provided strategic business coaching with an emphasis on advisor recruiting, development, business planning, and accountability to regional field leaders.  In addition to playing a primary role in new leader onboarding, Carmen provides support around the overall field leadership structure and revenue models. She works directly with Divisional Vice Presidents to ensure that systems, processes, and strategies are well-executed and that leaders are meeting performance expectations.  Carmen graduated from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with a degree in Mathematics. In addition to her role with Thrivent, she is also an organist/accompanist at Transfiguration Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Minnesota.  Carmen lives in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota with her husband Justin and their daughter Hope, where they enjoy spending time with friends and family.

Dennis Popplewell, LUTCF elected to the Board

Dennis Popplewell_webDennis Popplewell, LUTCF , Senior Vice President – Field Distribution  at Catholic Order of Foresters has been elected to the FFMA board.

Dennis has 38 years of field experience as an agent, regional director, agency manager and vice president. He is also experienced with membership based organizations.

Most recently, he served as Regional Director of an eight-state marketing territory with a field force of over 300 agents. In his 15 years as Regional Director of a large multiple-line company, his region showed exponential growth in field force and new production – especially in the areas of life insurance and annuity sales.

Dennis and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Cedar Falls, Iowa and have four grown children and four grandchildren. They love to travel, golf, enjoy good food and wine, and spend time with their children and grandchildren.

Christopher N. Durkin appointed as Member of the Board

Chris DurkinChristopher Durkin is the Director of Sales Training and Development for Knights of Columbus Insurance. Chris started with the Knights in May of 2012 with the Management Development Program, a comprehensive management track for recent college graduates. Upon completing the program, Chris was appointed as the Administrator to Agency Vice Presidents for the Field Management Department. In November 2015, Chris was promoted to Manager of Training and Field Compliance where he worked to enhance the field forces knowledge and skills of presenting insurance solutions. In January 2019, Chris was promoted to Director of Sales Training and Development. Chris graduated from Fairfield University, in May 2011 with a degree in Political Science and minor in Management. Chris, and his wife Katie, live in Fairfield Connecticut.

Charles R. Driffill Jr., FICF elected to the Board

Chuck DriffillChuck Driffill serves WoodmenLife as Vice President, Sales, effective March 1, 2018. He oversees training and development for Sales Representatives and Recruiting Sales Managers, as well as Sales Operations.

Driffill began his WoodmenLife career in April 2005 as a Sales Representative. He was promoted to Recruiting Sales Manager in February 2007 and won Recruiting Sales Manager of the Year honors in 2009 and 2010. Driffill was named Texas West Fraternalist of the Year from 2007–2009. In April 2011, he was promoted to Regional Director of Texas Southeast and later served as Regional Director of Texas West. On Oct. 1, 2016, he was promoted to Director, Sales in the Home Office.

Driffill is a Financial Advisor with Woodmen Financial Services and has earned the Fraternal Insurance Counselor Fellow (FICF) designation. He has served as President of the Southeast Texas Youth Association, Northwest Texas Youth Camp Corp. and Southwest Texas Fraternal Association.

He and his wife, Jamie, have two sons: Gavin and Colin. In his free time, Driffill enjoys watching and helping coach his boys at baseball, football and basketball.

Steward D. Lyman elected as President

The Fraternal Field Manager’s Association confirmed Steward D. Lyman as a Board President.

Stew Lyman is a divisional field manager in the Field Development Department at Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal financial services organization based in Rock Island, Ill.

Mr. Lyman joined Modern Woodmen in 2001 as a field representative before taking over his current position in 2003.

In his position, Mr. Lyman provides consultative support to regional directors and managing partners on recruiting, training and supervision. He conducts management training schools and conferences and develops recruiting and supervision materials.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in Charleston. He has earned his Chartered Leadership Fellow and Fraternal Insurance Counsellor designations and is series 7, 63 and 65 registered.

Stew, his wife, Cheryl, and their two children live in Moline, Ill.

Rogelio Cabral Elected President

Rogelio Cabral or “Ro” as his friends call him was elected President of the FFMA at the meeting in in Tempe,  AZ.   He was born in Mexico and move to United States in 1979.  Coming from an Immigrant family, he admits, the beginning was a bit rough.  However, he was fortunate to overcome challenges of living in the USA and humbled to where he is today.  He graduated from the University of Milwaukee in 1993 with BBA in Finance.  Through his early years, he was heavily involved in many sports including Boxing.  “I was blessed with the ability to compete at a high level in Boxing.  One national championship and finished runner-up 3 other times at the national level.  14 State and Regional Championships as well as represented the United States in 5 international competitions”.

He has been in the Financial Service Field since 1993.  Two years later, he moved to the frontline as a Personal Banker in a branch setting and worked there for a year and a half.  From there he was promoted to Relationship Banker and acquired his Life and Health Insurance license as well as his Securities Licenses Series 6 and 63. In 2000, he was the sole representative from the state of Wisconsin to be invited to the National Retail Investment Conference for personal production in all areas of retail, banking services, loans, investments and convenience products.  He then was promoted to Investments Advisor in 2000 and continued to work for Chase until 2003.

He joined Catholic Knights in June of 2004 and began to work on setting up the foundation for a Hispanic Agency that he began to build in January of 2005. He was able to surround himself with a solid group of Advisors.  Together, with the hard work and support of a great team as well as recognition from the Home Office Management team, the Hispanic Agency has 16 advisors working the greater Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay, WI and Greater Chicago Area.

In 2011 he was promoted to Vice President of Sales at Catholic Financial Life (formerly known as Catholic Knights/Catholic Family).

One of the proudest fraternal accomplishments over the last 13 years, has been to raise over $150,000 in local events supporting the community, Catholic schools, and parishes.  He states that “working with our branch system and with the support of Advisors, we will continue to give back to our local Catholic community”.

His personal accomplishments are numerous, but the ones that stand out are Advisor related.  He was Rookie of the Year 4 consecutive years, Life Producer of the Year, 100 Lives producer, Presidents Club, VP Club and Directors Club Qualifiers. Ro is Life and Health Insurance Licensed, Securities License Series 6, 7, 63, 26 and is a FIC, Fraternal Insurance Counselor.

Spencer Owen elected to the Board of Directors

Spencer Owen was elected to the Board of Directors of the Fraternal Field Managers Association (FFMA) at their May 10 Meeting in Charleston SC. Spencer will replace Elvis Anderson who will retire after 30 years in the Fraternal Insurance Industry.

Spencer Thomas Owen serves WoodmenLife as Vice President, Sales, having previously served as Director, Sales Management. Prior to that, Owen served as Nebraska/Iowa Regional Director from April 2011 until October 2012.

Owen began his WoodmenLife career as a Representative in November 1995 and was promoted to Recruiting Sales Manager in 2000. He was named Rookie Recruiting Sales Manager for Texas Southwest in 2000, Recruiting Sales Manager of the Year for Texas Southwest in 2005 and Recruiting Sales Manager of the Year for Texas in 2006. In July 2009, Owen became Texas Southeast Regional Director, and was named Rising Star Regional Director for 2010.

Owen is also a Financial Representative with Woodmen Financial Services. He is a member of NAFIC and has earned his FICF designation. He is also a member of General Agents and Manager Association (GAMA), and has been elected to serves on the Board of the Fraternal Field Managers’ Association (FFMA).

Owen is a member of Alpha Chapter 16 in Omaha, NE, and Chapter 6011 in Council Bluffs, IA. In his free time he enjoys golf, spending time with his family and traveling. He and his wife, Shelly, have three girls, Tiffanie, Deborah and Alaney.
